Preparing Your
Merchandise

The key to successful consigning is preparation! In order to provide top quality items to you and our shoppers we will be extremely particular about the merchandise we will accept. Please do not be offended if we send items home with you. Ask yourself, “Would I buy this item?”
A LITTLE WORK BEFORE THE SALE LEADS TO A LARGER CHECK AFTER THE SALE!
Here's our guidelines for preparing your merchandise for the sale:
PRICING YOUR ITEMS-
While our consignors set the price for their own items, we suggest 25-30% of the retail price. Don't forget our shoppers are looking for bargains, so price to sell. We also suggest that you let your items go half-price during the half-price sale on Saturday afternoon.
Items must be at least $2.50 & priced in increments of $0.50 ($2.50, $3.00, $3.50, etc..). If an item is not worth $2.50, group it together with several other items. When possible put grouped items in a Ziploc bag, or if it's a hanger, rubberband the hangers together. Be sure that grouped items will not come apart!
CLOTHING-
THE BETTER THEY LOOK, THE BETTER THEY SELL! Please take time to wash and iron your clothing before tagging. Check for stains, broken zippers, missing buttons or snaps, tears, etc. Close all zippers and fasten buttons and snaps. Worn and/or outdated clothing will be sent home with you.
Sizes Accepted- Preemie to Teen styles and sizes. We also accept Maternity clothing and nursing bras. Current styles only.
All tags must be pinned on clothing and similar items using a large safety pin (do NOT use the little gold safety pins - they won't stay on). Please put tags on the front of the item in the most visible place.
All clothing items should be hung with hook facing left. The hangers should look like a question mark (?) when facing you.
At Uptown Kids Spring Consignment Sale we will be accepting all seasons of clothing. Remember most shoppers will be shopping for current season clothing, and any off season clothing should be priced accordingly. At future sales, we may only accept the current season.
All pants must be pinned to a hanger and not folded over, as they tend to end up on the floor. Safety pin all sets and accessories securely together, with pants pinned on the back of the shirt at the waist. Both pieces need to be viewable without unpinning them.
If you have more than one item that you want to sell together, rubberband the hangers together.
SHOES-
We will accept only LIKE NEW shoes! Shoes are difficult to tag. First, as a back up to our tagging system, put your consignor number and price on masking tape and affix to the inside of the shoes. Then safety pin the price tag to a shoelace or through the shoelace eyelet. Put shoes and price tag inside a Ziploc bag. Suggestion: with a Sharpie write your consignor number and price on a Ziploc bag.
BEDDING-
It is best to package a bedding set together in its original clear plastic bag. These can be purchased at discount stores. As an option extra large Ziploc bags work great! Adhere tag with clear packing tape to the bag. Seal the bag closed with packing tape.
BLANKETS-
Hang and pin blankets over a hanger, so that shoppers can see them.
For receiving blankets, group two or three together and pin price tag to the item and place in a Ziploc bag. Seal with clear packing tape.
LOOSE ITEMS-
Bottles, bibs, rattles, socks, bows, etc. group together appropriately in a Ziploc bag. Tape tag in bag being sure that it is visible. Seal with clear packing tape. It also helps to write your consignor number and the price on the bag with a Sharpie in case the tag gets separated during the sale.
TOYS, FURNITURE, & EQUIPMENT-
Must be clean and in working order (Batteries included). Small parts must be bagged and attached to the main part very securely. If parts get separated it will not sell. Games should be taped closed. Puzzles, books, videos, and small toys should be grouped accordingly and be put in a Ziploc bag. Tape the tag to the inside of the bag being sure that it is visible, and seal with tape. It is also a good idea to write your consignor number and information with a Sharpie on the bag. Puzzles should be wrapped securely in clear saran wrap to keep the pieces intact. TOYS NOT PACKAGED APPROPRIATELY WILL BE TURNED AWAY.
Pack 'n' Plays, swings, cribs*, etc... must have all pieces, be clean, and not be out of date. If you want your crib or other large items assembled or set up (it will sell faster) allow time to do so during drop-off. If you do not want to assemble your large item, we encourage consignors to attach a photo of it assembled to the item. Items sell much faster when the customer can see exactly what they are purchasing.
* For safety reasons only bring cribs that are 10 years old and newer. Thanks!
We will only accept Beanie Baby, Disney, or other name brand stuffed animals in like-new condition or stuffed toys that do something like move, light up, or make noise. (Make sure to include batteries if needed)
Large Little Tykes Toys and Furniture are in high demand! When tagging large toys, it is best to also attach a piece of clear packing tape to the toy with your consignor information and tag. This will enable us to sell your toy even if the tag comes off!
Sports equipment must be clean and in good condition.
CAR SEATS-
Car seats must have been manufactured within the past five years. It must not be subject to recall or have been in an accident. You must be the original owner. All seat covers and straps must be thoroughly cleaned. You will be asked to sign a car seat waiver stating that your car seat has all the pieces and is in excellent condition, and not more than five years old. Car seats will be closely inspected for safety reasons. Please print out the Car Seat Checklist and submit a signed copy at drop-off along with your car seat. Be sure to bring the manufacturer's instructions. These will be necessary in order to sell your car seat.
